Job Summary: Responsible for providing clinical psychotherapy and evaluation services to patients to promote optimal individual, interpersonal and social functioning. Promotes patient’s continued well being through direct psychological services as determined by Clinical Program Director. Collaborates with other community providers as appropriate. Must be independently incensed in Vermont. Must be willing to acquire New Hampshire License within 6 months of hire. This role is out-patient specific and made to suit the client's preferences. This could require full-time in-office presence depending on the client's needs.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required
- Clinical expertise in psychotherapeutic process, transference and counter transference dynamic, crisis intervention, skills in working with the acute and chronically mentally ill population as well as with individuals and families undergoing episodes of psychological and psychiatric distress; skills in diagnosis and assessment in an outpatient setting.
- Competency in the autonomous delivery of outpatient evaluation and psychotherapeutic services.
- Ability to work as part of a comprehensive multidisciplinary mental health team and to represent the Retreat in the community.
- Competency in the delivery of general and some specialty evaluations and psychotherapeutic treatment.
- Familiar with community support systems, health care and human service resources for treatment planning and collaboration.
- Good organizational skills and administrative abilities.
- Flexibility in days and hours available for scheduled work.
- Knowledge of and ability to adhere to the professional code of ethics and the state mental health code.
- Acquire New Hampshire license within 6 months of hire.
QUALIFICATIONS: Senior Therapist
- Master’s degree in a mental health discipline. MSW preferred. Must be licensed with 3rd party reimbursable approval.
- At least three years of professional experience in mental health or human services preferably in an outpatient setting.
- At least three years of experience providing direct clinical care as a psychotherapist.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Core Competencies
Provides direct collaborative clinical care (individual psychotherapy, supportive therapy, family/marital and/or group therapy) to patients to promote change according to patient’s treatment plan.
Provides quality service to patients, including clinical care and documentation. Adheres to agency’s code of ethics, standards, policies and procedures as well as the state mental health code. Provides direct service in accordance with department’s productivity and other performance standards.
Provides independent patient/family assessments and treatment as needed and collaborates with the outpatient multidisciplinary team as clinically determined. Forms therapeutic relationship with patient integrating theoretical knowledge effectively and ethically in treatment.
Assesses and evaluates outpatients. Evaluation will include psychosocial evaluation, level of clinical care required, mental status exam, diagnostic formulation and initial treatment plan.
Provides program development and evaluation in specified area. Develops and recommends changes to improve service delivery as needed. Implement changes and new programming to meet both clinical and fiscal standards as determined by the clinical and administrative program director.
Coordinates and communicates with other providers and service components to assure continuity of care and the provisions of comprehensive services.
Provides clinical care or referral to patients’ families to enhance adaptive functioning as needed, including family therapy and supportive family contacts using knowledge of systems theory, family dynamics and pathology.
Assists in receiving authorization from managed care/insurance companies.
Makes skilled judgement regarding clinical risk assessments in an outpatient setting.
Diagnosis and treats child developmental, social, and psychological disorders in an outpatient setting.
Familiar with psychodynamic and behavioral therapy and interventions with children and families.
