Vermont State University is seeking qualified candidates for Graduate Assistant positions in Student Affairs. Graduate Assistants in this area play an important role in supporting the success, development, and experience of our students.
Graduate Assistants for Student Affairs will report directly to the Assistant Dean of Students.
Graduate Assistants for Student Affairs appointments are typically structured as two one-year appointments, contingent upon satisfactory academic progress, job performance, program needs, and approval by the University. Graduate Assistants for Student Affairs positions include tuition remission for up to 18 graduate credits; on-campus housing and a $5,000 stipend.
Under current IRS regulations, graduate tuition benefits exceeding the annual non-taxable threshold of $5,250 will be treated as taxable income and subject to applicable withholding taxes. Any resulting tax liability is the responsibility of the graduate assistant.
Graduate Assistants are expected to maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and as representatives of Vermont State University, are expected to demonstrate professionalism and integrity, while fostering those same expectations among students. Appointment to a Graduate Assistant for Student Affairs position may be terminated in cases involving deliberate or serious violations of university policies.

Responsibilities for the
Activities position include, but are not limited to:
- Serve as a resource person and/or advisor to campus student organizations and provide student organizations with a wide range of information and assistance in developing leadership, organizational, political, and planning skills (e.g., workshops, manuals, one-on-one counseling).
- Attend regular staff meetings.
- Assist with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a wide range of student activities, programs, and services.
- Support the development and modification of programs and services in accordance with student interests and institutional objectives.
- Participate in the planning and implementation of major campus programs as assigned (e.g., Activities Fair, Homecoming, Awards Day, Special Weekends, Commencement).
- Other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities for the
Orientation position include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in the planning and facilitation of the Orientation Leader program including recruitment, selection, and supervision of orientation leaders.
- Attend regular staff meetings.
- Work with other support the development of assessment agenda.
- Support the coordination of reports.
- Assist with Student Affairs general administrative responsibilities, assisting specifically with programming and new student orientation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities for the
Conduct position include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in the assignment and updates of cases daily, including reporting, using systems, under the direction of Assistant Dean or designee.
- Participate in hearing, investigating, transcribing and adjudicating conduct cases as directed.
- Support the review of educational sanctions with students and follow-up as appropriate.
- Work with others to help develop, plan, and implement assessment projects, departmental outreach plans, student drug testing protocol/tracking, and benchmarking assignments.
- Attend regular staff meetings.
- Assist with recruiting and training for the University Conduct Board/Honor Council, including application review, applicant interviews, advertising, and developing/facilitating training sessions.
- Support the development of a SOP manual for conduct hearing process.
- Other duties as assigned.
All Graduate Assistant Student Affairs positions require a Bachelor's degree in appropriate discipline and confirmed enrollment in Vermont State University graduate program.
