VT 211 is Vermont's statewide information and referral service, connecting all Vermonters to vital community resources since 2005. Whether someone is navigating financial hardship, food insecurity, housing instability, mental health challenges, or disaster recovery, VT 211 serves as a trusted, compassionate guide, helping people find the right help at the right time. Our mission is to promote the health and well-being of all people in Vermont through a statewide information and referral system for streamlined access to community resources. We believe no Vermonter should struggle alone. We provide free, confidential, and non-judgmental support to anyone who reaches out, regardless of income, background, or circumstance. Available by phone, text, or email, VT 211 meets people where they are, removing barriers to access and ensuring every caller feels heard, respected, and supported. VT 211 serves the entire public, including individuals, families, seniors, veterans, immigrants, and communities in crisis. We are proud to be accredited by Inform USA, the national accrediting body for information and referral programs, reflecting our commitment to the highest standards of service delivery. Poverty alleviation is at the heart of what we do. By connecting low-income Vermonters to benefits, emergency assistance, housing support, food resources, and more, we help people stabilize their lives and build pathways out of crisis. When disasters strike, VT 211 becomes a critical support, ensuring that underserved and rural communities, who are disproportionately impacted, have a clear and trusted source for information and resources.

Member Duties : The VISTA Volunteer will strengthen VT 211's role as Vermont's trusted disaster resource hub by building partnerships with local and regional emergency management offices, Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD), Long Term Recovery Groups, and other community organizations. The member will conduct outreach, map local resources, and update VT 211's database so callers receive accurate, geographically relevant referrals during crises. This work advances United Ways of Vermont's mission to connect people with help when they need it most. By expanding VT 211's reach into local networks, the VISTA ensures all Vermonters have a clear path to support. Underserved, rural, and low-income communities are disproportionately impacted when disasters strike, often lacking the networks to navigate recovery alone. By ensuring VT 211 remains a reliable access point for disaster resources, this service directly addresses that inequity and helps the most vulnerable find a path through crisis.
