Our Mission
At Stowe Home Care Maintenance, we specialize in high-quality finish carpentry, from custom millwork and historic restorations to complex structural projects. Our clients trust us because we consistently deliver precise, reliable, and durable work. We are looking for a skilled finish carpenter who takes pride in the details—from perfect reveals to clean, accurate framing. If you are a craftsman who values high standards and enjoys leading a team through challenging projects, we invite you to join our crew.
What You Will Be Doing
We are looking for a dedicated Finish Carpentry Crew Leader who possesses a master level of skill, layout proficiency, and accountability. This is not a helper or a solo-subcontractor role. We need a leader who can manage a high-end job site, guide an apprentice, engage directly with discerning clients about specific architectural challenges, and execute flawless finish work every single day.
To be considered for the high end of our pay scale, you must exhibit at least 5 years of documented leadership experience managing carpentry crews and interacting with clients. We are looking for a specialist who can read blueprints, calculate complex stair and roof geometry, and solve building envelope or trim issues without hand-holding. If you have the skills to justify a premium wage, we are ready to pay it—but you must prove it through your application, work history, and our practical field assessment.
Core Trade Competencies:
1. Architectural Finish Carpentry
- Trim & Moldings: Flawless execution of multi-piece crown molding, wainscoting, coffered ceilings, and custom baseboards. Perfect cope joints and tight reveals are your baseline standard.
- Doors & Windows: Expert installation of interior/exterior doors, custom hardware, jamb extensions, and complex window casings. Everything must swing flawlessly and seal perfectly against Vermont winters.
- Built-ins & Cabinetry: Installing high-end kitchen cabinets, custom vanities, and built-in shelving units with seamless scribing to uneven walls and floors.
2. Exterior Carpentry & Timber Structures
- Premium Decking: Expert installation of hidden-fastener PVC, composite, and exotic hardwood decking (e.g., Ipe). Flawless picture-framing, stair stringer calculations, and guardrail integration.
- Siding & Trim: Proficient with cedar shingles, clapboards, and fiber-cement siding. Precision wrapping of exterior columns, cornices, and soffits.
- Building Envelope Integrity: A deep understanding of flashing, house wraps, and water-mitigation strategies to ensure your beautiful work never rots from the inside out.
3. Framing & Structural Adaptations
- Squaring & Levelling: Modifying existing, older framing to receive dead-plumb finish work. You know how to sister joists, correct sagging headers, and safely shore up structural components.
- Stair Geometry: Ability to lay out, calculate, and build interior and exterior stairs that meet strict building codes while maintaining elegant proportions.
4. Crew Leadership & Client Management
- Site Management: Keeping a clean, safe, and highly organized job site. Managing dust containment inside high-end occupied homes.
- Apprentice Mentorship: Teaching the trade to junior technicians—showing them the "why" behind the "how" to raise the standard of the entire crew.
- Blueprint Proficiency: Reading and interpreting architectural plans, elevations, and section details accurately to avoid costly layout mistakes.
SHCM Standards (Non-Negotiable)
- The Craftsman Standard: You work as if your name is permanently signed to the project. We provide premium heavy-duty tools; you provide the elite expertise to run them.
- Zero Tolerance for No-Shows: If you are scheduled, you are there. Late arrivals are not part of our culture.
- Drug and Alcohol-Free: We maintain a strictly substance-free workplace for the safety of our team, our tools, and our clients.
- Trust and Reliability: You must provide three professional references from GC’s, architects, or past clients. We perform background checks prior to hiring.
- Physical Ability: You are capable of lifting over 75 lbs consistently, maintaining steady hands on precision cuts, and working on your feet or staging in all weather conditions. You are proud of your grit.
Why Join the Team?
- Stability: Consistent, year-round work and premium weekly wages, breaking the feast-or-famine cycle of independent contracting.
- Ownership: Autonomy to run your jobs and lead your crew, backed by an organized office that handles materials, billing, and scheduling.
- Respect: Access to top-tier tools, a safe work environment, and a company culture that truly values the meticulous art of carpentry.
