Sugar House Hotel is seeking a Chief Engineer to join our opening team in Winooski, Vermont. This is a high-impact leadership role for an engineering professional who enjoys building systems, solving problems, and supporting a best-in-class guest environment. The Chief Engineer will help establish preventive maintenance programs, departmental standards, vendor relationships, and a responsive culture of safety and care.
What you’ll do
- Lead engineering, maintenance, and facilities operations for the hotel
- Build and execute preventive maintenance, work order, and inspection programs
- Oversee mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and life safety systems
- Coordinate vendor relationships, outside contractors, and departmental budgets
- Support opening readiness, punch-list completion, and ongoing asset protection
- Maintain high standards across guestrooms, public areas, back-of-house, and safety compliance
What we’re looking for
Required
- 5+ years of engineering leadership experience in a hotel or similarly complex facility
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems
- Experience with preventive maintenance, vendor management, and department organization
- Ability to respond to operational needs with schedule flexibility
Preferred
- Hotel pre-opening experience
- Experience with sustainability-focused, all-electric, or LEED-oriented properties
- Relevant technical licenses or certifications
