Lawn & Snow Technician – Equipment Operator (Trucks, Trailers, & Lawn Mowers)
Eagle Lawn & Snow – Northfield, VT 05663
$22.50–$26.25 per hour (base $22.50/hr W2 + typical performance bonuses)– Full-time
About Us
Eagle Lawn & Snow is a small, growing lawn and snow company in Central Vermont. We’re a lean operation, not a huge crew or big shop. The upside: you work directly with the owner, see how the business runs, and grow with us as we add more routes and people.
We maintain premium residential properties where families, kids, and neighbors see us. Our crew has a clean, professional image: no smoking or vaping on client properties, at the shop, or in trucks, and a respectful attitude even on the toughest days.
If you like being early in the story, not employee #27, you’ll fit in here.
We’re hiring now to add to our crew for the current and upcoming lawn and snow seasons. Start dates are flexible for the right person.
What You’ll Do
Lawn season (Spring–Fall):
- Run mowers, trimmers, blowers, and other equipment
- Safely drive trucks with trailers; load, secure, and back trailers into driveways
- Handle weekly mowing, trimming, and cleanups to a clear standard
- Use a smartphone app for schedules, job notes, and photos
- Do basic equipment checks and keep trucks/trailers clean and organized
Snow season (Winter):
- Operate plow trucks and related snow equipment during storms
- Clear driveways and small lots, apply salt/ice melt as needed
- Work on‑call during snow events (days/nights/weekends as weather dictates)
- Log work and photos in our app and stay in touch during changing conditions
Who This Role Is For
You’re a fit if you:
- Learn fast and don’t need constant hand‑holding
- Are comfortable driving trucks with trailers (backing, tight driveways, dirt roads)
- Have run mowers or similar equipment (landscaping, construction, farming, etc.)
- Show up on time, handle changing weather, and take pride in clean, efficient work
- Can follow company rules even when you don’t personally care about them
- Can commit to no smoking or vaping at work, in trucks, at the shop, or on any client property
- Are willing and able to work 4 longer days most weeks in lawn season – typical days are around 9–10 hours, and some days run up to ~12 hours when we’re catching up from weather, breakdowns, or peak season (long days are normal here)
- Want more than “just a job” and like the idea of growing with a small company
This is NOT a fit if you:
- Complain a lot about heat, cold, rain, or long days
- Have a hard time taking correction without getting angry
- Need to smoke or vape during the workday or in vehicles
- Need to clock out at the exact same time every day instead of finishing routes and cleanup
- Walk off jobs or ghost when things feel hard
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Comfortable and safe with trucks and trailers (or strong experience with larger vehicles/equipment)
- Able to lift 50+ lbs and work in all weather (heat, rain, cold, snow)
- Smartphone (we use an employee portal for scheduling, photos, and communication)
- Experience in lawn care, landscaping, snow, construction, or equipment operation preferred
- Willing and able to be on‑call for winter storms (nights/weekends as needed)
Pay & Schedule
- Base pay: $22.50/hr W2 for all field staff
- Performance pay: Up to ~30% of billable labor revenue when routes are run efficiently and to standard
- Growth path: Clear 90‑day path to Lead Tech at $25.00/hr base + performance pay for top performers who can reliably run routes and uphold our standards
- First 90 days are a probation period to make sure it’s a good fit both ways.
Schedule:
- Lawn season: usually 4 longer days per week. Some weeks are closer to 9–10 hours a day; some days run ~12 hours+ when we’re catching up from weather or equipment issues. Overtime is paid after 40 hours/week.
- Winter: On‑call during storms (overtime common in heavy weeks).
We move quickly: short phone call → group orientation → paid trial day in the field.
