Lead a Residential Team Supporting Youth Success
VPI is seeking a dedicated and compassionate
Residential Supervisor to lead and support direct care staff while creating a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for youth in our residential program. This position plays a critical role in guiding youth development, supervising residential counselors, and ensuring the daily operations of the dormitory run smoothly and effectively.

Position Summary
The Residential Supervisor serves as an essential member of the treatment team, providing leadership, supervision, crisis intervention, and direct support to youth and residential staff. This role is responsible for maintaining a safe and engaging residential environment while ensuring program standards, documentation requirements, and youth care expectations are consistently met.
Reports To: Program Manager
Key Responsibilities
Youth Care & Program Support
- Provide direct supervision, guidance, and positive role modeling for youth.
- Develop meaningful, growth-focused relationships with youth.
- Support youth in building daily living skills, personal hygiene, grooming habits, and independence.
- Plan and facilitate recreational, leisure, and skill-building activities.
- Lead or delegate daily dormitory groups to help coordinate routines and expectations.
- Maintain familiarity with each youth's treatment goals, service plans, strengths, and individual needs.
- Monitor and document youth behavior, progress, and daily activities.
Staff Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise and support Residential Counselors.
- Conduct documented supervision sessions and contribute to staff performance evaluations.
- Provide ongoing coaching, mentorship, and real-time feedback.
- Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment.
- Participate actively in staff meetings, trainings, and program development initiatives.
Dormitory Operations
- Coordinate daily dorm activities and ensure consistent structure and routines.
- Organize youth chore assignments and maintain a clean, safe living environment.
- Oversee inventory of youth belongings, clothing, hygiene products, gifts, and purchases.
- Ensure youth have access to appropriate clothing and personal care items.
- Maintain accountability for dormitory equipment and supplies.
- Coordinate dorm organization and operational needs with the Program Manager.
Documentation & Compliance - Ensure completion of all required logs, reports, and documentation, including:
- Residential logs
- Phone call logs
- Accountability forms
- Incident reports
- Read and review previous shift notes to maintain continuity of care.
- Maintain confidentiality and communicate relevant information appropriately.
- Understand and follow program policies, procedures, safety protocols, and chain of command.
Safety & Crisis Management - Maintain a safe environment for youth and staff.
- Identify and report safety concerns promptly.
- Follow emergency procedures and building safety protocols.
- Participate in crisis intervention and behavior management efforts.
- Maintain current certifications in:
- First Aid
- CPR
- TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention)
Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred
- Two or more years of experience working with children or adolescents in residential, educational, recreational, behavioral health, or community-based settings.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience.
- Experience in youth development, mentoring, coaching, counseling support, or direct care services.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, reach, and move throughout the workday.
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to respond appropriately in emergency and crisis situations.
- Work may involve exposure to varying indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.
