Essex High School is seeking a full-time Office Assistant to provide administrative support for the high school’s main office. This position supports daily school operations through front office services, communications, event coordination, and clerical and logistical support for the administrative team.
The Office Assistant is often the first point of contact for students, families, staff, and the public and helps maintain a welcoming, professional, and organized school environment.
What You’ll Do
- Support the main office: Welcome students, families, staff, and visitors; answer phones and respond to questions; manage mail, supplies, equipment, records, and other day-to-day clerical and office functions.
- Support school operations: Maintain records and databases; manage supplies, equipment, lockers, and lost and found; maintain evacuation lists; and support other office systems.
- Support administrators: Assist with calendars, appointments, correspondence, meeting minutes, special projects, school events, and other administrative needs.
- Support financial operations: Process financial documents, maintain financial records, assist with bookkeeping, collect and disburse funds, complete deposits, and provide support to school finance and activities staff.
- Coordinate communications: Prepare and distribute information to students, families, staff, and the community through email, websites, social media, newsletters, announcements, and other channels.
- Serve as a resource for students and families: Respond to questions and requests, coordinate services, serve as a liaison with families and community partners, and help resolve concerns while maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and a welcoming, inclusive school environment.
- Collaborate with school and community partners: Coordinate activities, exchange information, and help resolve questions or concerns with administrators, staff, families, district offices, vendors, community organizations, and others.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism: Protect confidential information, follow district policies and regulations, and contribute to an inclusive and respectful school environment.
Compensation & Benefits
Pay: $23.51+/hour, based on experience
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week, school-year position with additional paid workdays during select school breaks, including summer. Immediate start available!

Qualifications
Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:
- Minimum of two years of relevant administrative experience or equivalent education/training
- Previous experience working with adolescents and/or demonstrated ability to work effectively with high school students
- Knowledge of and appreciation for high school-aged students, with the ability to see students as whole people and respond to their individual needs
- Strong technology skills and the ability to learn and effectively use new systems
Preferred Qualifications
The following experience is preferred, but not required:
- Knowledge of school operations
- Bookkeeping/accounting experience and/or training
- Experience with restorative practices and de-escalation techniques
- Experience in social work, community outreach, or other settings working with students and families
- Experience working in a busy office environment
