Job Description:
Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by assisting in advancing the visibility, reputation, and strategic storytelling of Norwich University athletics. Working within the Marketing & Communications Office (MCO), this position contributes to the development and execution of integrated communications strategies that accurately capture game day experience and statistics, highlight student-athlete achievement, enhance recruitment efforts, and elevate the Norwich brand.
This role blends traditional athletic communications responsibilities with modern digital strategy, content creation, and data-informed storytelling to advance institutional priorities.
This is a 40 hour per week and 52 weeks per year 1.0 FTE position.
Essential Functions
- Assists the Director in executing programs and initiatives to deliver athletic communications objectives.
- Writes, edits, and distributes news releases, game recaps, feature stories, and game notes for assigned sports.
- Manages and executes social media strategies across platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, etc.), including content capture, creations, and publishing.
- Monitors and analyzes digital and social media performance metrics to inform strategy and improve engagement.
- Coordinates and manages game day communications operations, including staffing, statistics, live coverage, and media relations.
- Identifies, recruits, trains, and supervises student workers to support daily operations and game day responsibilities.
- Serves as primary media contact for assigned sports, coordinating interviews, media requests, and press coverage.
- Collaborates with the Marketing & Communications Office (MCO) Creative Services team on the design and production of graphics, publications, and recruiting materials.
- Provides digital media support, including website updates, content management, video integration, and digital asset capture and organization.
- Maintains and update team rosters, statistics, records, historical archives, and athletic website content.
- Serves as a liaison with the athletic website provider to ensure effective functionality and presentation.
- Proactively identifies and develops student-athlete and program stories that support recruitment and brand visibility.
- Ensures accuracy, consistency, and alignment with institutional brand standards across all communications and platforms.
- Assists with athletic events, including contests, banquets, meetings, and special events, as needed.
- Supports additional departmental initiatives and communications needs as assigned by the VP, AVP, or Director.

- Speaks, reads and writes in English.

- Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required
- 2 years of experience in intercollegiate media relations/sports information.
- Experience with sports statistics (Stat Crew, Prestostats, NCAA Live Stats software) required
- Experience with databases, event planning, and project management preferred
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook) and Adobe Creative Cloud required
- Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 15 pounds; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus
- Work evening, weekend, or holiday break hours
- Travel as needed (public or private transportation)
Environmental Conditions
- Indoor work at a computer workstation and outdoor work at sporting events
- Medium level of exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes.
