Overview

Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, and deliver prescribed respiratory therapy to patients across age groups, including oxygen therapy, inhaled medications, airway clearance, and suctioning
- Manage ventilator support, including setting adjustments, monitoring, weaning protocols, and responding to changes in patient status
- Conduct ABG sampling, interpret results, and adjust treatment plans in collaboration with the care team
- Administer noninvasive ventilation and airway support, and perform chest physiotherapy or related therapies as indicated
- Document interventions, progress notes, and orders accurately in the electronic medical record system (Epic); communicate updates to physicians, nurses, and the respiratory care team
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, patient safety standards, and state licensure requirements; participate in unit protocols and quality improvement activities
Requirements
- Vermont state licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (or eligibility to obtain licensure) required
- Certifications: NBRC Certified Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or eligible to take NBRC written exam; ACLS, BLS, NRP; PALS preferred
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of clinical respiratory therapy experience; 2+ years in the specialty area; NICU experience within the last year
- Education: Relevant respiratory therapy education as required for licensure
- Skills/abilities: Ability to work in a fast-paced hospital setting, perform complex ventilator management, and participate in cross-unit coverage as needed
- Patient population: Comfort caring for all ages (0–100+ years) with unit-specific care needs
- Systems: Epic experience within the past 2 years preferred
