The Bennington County Conservation District works to strengthen the long-term stewardship, productivity, and resilience of working lands and natural resources through locally led conservation, technical assistance, education, and partnership development. The District supports practical, community-based solutions that improve land access, expand conservation implementation, and build local capacity in ways that benefit both rural livelihoods and the health of the landscape. This mission aligns with the proposed VISTA project’s focus on workforce development, food security, community resilience, and veteran economic opportunity. The goal of this project is to increase economic opportunity for veterans, beginning farmers, and underserved rural residents in Bennington County by developing the organizational infrastructure, partnerships, funding systems, volunteer network, and governance framework needed to establish and sustain the Bennington Veteran Incubator Farm and Veteran Farmers’ Cooperative.
