Job Details
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Lead development of new and existing ceramic thermal processes using DOE, profile development, and lab analysis.
- Drive process improvements impacting yield, capacity, cycle time, and cost.
- Build standardization in the kiln department (SOPs, workflows, noncompliance processes, production boards).
- Support and optimize machine and material process parameters using LEAN, DOE, and statistical analysis.
- Troubleshoot thermal processing issues and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Provide technical support for manufacturing disruptions and long-term countermeasures.
- Train staff on thermal processing concepts and best practices.
- Manage refractory material selection, performance monitoring, and ordering.
- Support maintenance with best practices, stocking guidelines, and repair strategies.
- Interface with vendors and contractors to ensure kiln performance and reliability.
- Stay current with kiln hardware and controls (combustion and electric systems).
- Identify areas where additional process controls or detection methods are needed.
- Assist commercial teams with customer production build programs.
- Provide after-hours support as needed.
Needed Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Materials Science, Chemical, or Ceramic Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of experience with electronics and/or combustion equipment.
- Background in process engineering and process design.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and organizational skills.
- Experience with thermal processing, sintering, and firing cycle development (desired).
- Experience with PID/PLC controllers (desired).
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical (desired).
- Ability to work independently and cross-functionally in small groups.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Time management skills and ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
