For 99 years, Camp Thorpe has given teens and adults with developmental disabilities a joyful, inclusive summer in Vermont's Green Mountains, a place where campers find the fun of summer camp and the security of a loving home away from home. As we head into our 100th season, we're looking for an organized, warm, detail-driven Operations Manager to keep camp systems running smoothly year-round.
THE ROLE
The Operations Manager is the Executive Director's principal operational partner. They keep registration, hiring, summer office operations, and marketing running like clockwork. It's a hands-on role for someone who thrives on process, communicates warmly with camper families, and can move easily between clerical administration, marketing production, and in-season camp operations. You'll work closely with our Executive Director, Leadership Team, Board, and seasonal staff, and be a welcoming, visible presence to camper families throughout the year.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Own the camper registration cycle each fall, winter, and spring, including family how-to sessions, paperwork tracking, and the scholarship program.
- Support hiring and onboarding: background checks, hiring and tax paperwork, and clerical support for seasonal and year-round staff.
- Staff the camp store and office during the summer and maintain our online store.
- Lead day-to-day marketing and communications, including social media, our photo and video galleries, the camp website, newsletter, and Annual Report.
- Provide general administrative support to the Executive Director and camp operations and assist with fall rentals.
WHAT YOU BRING
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in office administration, operations, or program coordination; nonprofit, camp, or human-services experience is a strong plus.
- Excellent, warm written and verbal communication skills, as many families we work with are navigating a disability services system for the first time.
- Strong organizational skills and comfort juggling multiple seasonal processes (registration, hiring, marketing) at once.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace or Microsoft Office, and willingness to learn camp-specific systems like Ultra Camp and Givebutter.
- Working knowledge of social media and basic content creation or photo/video editing.
- A genuine interest in serving people with developmental disabilities and their families. An understanding of camp life or willingness to learn.
- A valid driver's license, reliable car, and the ability to pass a background check, including Vermont's requirements for staff working with vulnerable populations.
- Ability and stamina to move freely on a campus with hills and dirt walking paths. Must be able to lift at least 50 Pounds.
